Because 24-carat gold is extremely malleable. You could dent it with your fingernail.

Pure gold is too soft and too expensive. You can bend gold without using tools so it would never last.

it’s much more expensive than lesser grades of gold, but there are probably other reasons too.

I think 24 carat gold is pretty soft. They use a lower carat because in something like a wedding ring that we wear every day you would really “ding” it up pretty bad

24 karat gold is too soft for a ring, which is going to get knocked around on a daily basis.
