Why Do We Put Wedding Rings On The Left Hand?
Written by Admin on November 1, 2009I’ve heard it is because there is a varicosity moving from that member to the heart. Is this veritable or does it depend on ones gild and location?

i like the answer i remember hearing..
where guys carried swords and stuff…
being on the right
it kinda goes back in the day
and mostly guys were right handed back than (as the left hand was the sign of the devil)..
so you wore your sword on your right side.. and your lady was on your left..
so i think it has something to do with swords… and sheilds..

the heart is on the left side of the chest, therefore the left hand is closer to the heart.
Also since most people are right handed, its more convenient to have your ring out of the way on the hand you use less often

It has been on the left hand since I can remember, but I don’t the meaning behind it. I never thought of it as been a culture thing, but everyone does it.(Great question I hope you get the answer you’re looking for.)

You how people make up stories to make the truth more romantic??
I think they say they put the ring on the left hand cuz its closer to the heart. I personally think its because most people are right handed.. and the ring gets in the way of holding a pen!
Thats just my opinion though.

All blood comes from the heart……
But I believe that the left hand has a so called sweet finger. Also the left hand is slightly smaller than the right maybe thats another reason?
Or is it because we usually use right hand more thus we put the ring on the left for safety?

There are many theories as to why this particular finger came to symbolize marriage. Both the ancient Romans and Egyptians believed that a vein – called the vena amoris in Latin – ran directly from that finger to the heart.
In medieval England, a bridegroom would slide the ring part way up his bride’s thumb, index and middle finger, saying “In the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost” as he passed each one. He then put the ring on the next available finger – the third finger of the left hand. This practice was finally formalized in the 1500′s when Henry VIII’s son authored The Book of Common Prayer, which gives English modern Protestant wedding vows and decrees on which finger our wedding rings should go.

Depends on where you live. In Eastern Europe it’s worn on the right hand. This actually began with the practice of wearing your wedding ring on your working hand. Since most people are right handed, it just became tradition there to wear the ring on the right hand.

it depends on culture…my fiance is from Estonia and he says people there put it on the right finger so when you shake hand with someone they know your taken.
