It’s an insensitive boorish person that asks such a question unless they have actully seen that the person is wearing any ring. You know, like when a person ask you how much you paid for something. Like it’s any of their business.
There are some religions that don’t believe in wearing jewelry and that includes wedding rings as well. My poor mother didn’t get a wedding ring until she’d been married almost 40 years. She wore it proudly as times had changed since they’d wed.
It isn’t the ring that make a marriage. It is the commitment & love between two people; and their behaviour & conversation should reflect tha union as well.
But in this day & age, [most times] a wedding ring is respected and the interested party moves on when they see that ring. If you can’t afford an engagement ring, that’s fine. Presonally, I think a wedding ring is a good idea.

It’s just to show the bling… I had a friend tell me his buddy and his wife got solid bands tattoo’d on their fingers that way everyone would know they were taken!

Because, women love jewelry. The nicer the ring, the more likely she is to be proud of it. Its all about the ring. You have to get a perfect ring for your girl.

I agree, ALL I want is a simple band with small diamonds. A regular band is not feminine, otherwise I woudn’t care.

if the ring itself is that important, it’s for show mostly. The ring represents an unbroken circle between two people. The size and weight of the ring is only a technicality.

most women like to show off their rings. if i was given an engagement ring with a small diamond, i would take it. honestly, the size of the diamond doesn’t really matter to me – the most important thing is his LOVE.
what’s important to you – the size of the diamond that you have or your love and relationship with your partner?
a small diamond and a simple wedding band is perfect for me. i really dont want those extravagant, huge diamond rings on my finger.

Oh baloney!
They are a symbol of love and it tells everyone else to stay the hell away cause this person is taken.
Many people won’t listen but that’s what I see when I see a ring on her finger.

It can show how rich you or your partner is, how much the other person “loces” or cares about you, how much money they can afford to spend on you.

Women like to show off their rings. It’s an envy and jealous thing. It’s a way to show other women you’ve caught one.
A wedding ring was also used as a courtesy to the opposite sex, especially for a woman, that she was already taken. That way she wouldn’t have to continually fend off and reject lots of new mates.

This doesn’t really answer your question, but I just read somewhere that the size of the diamond represents how much the guy loves the girl. But it’s the smaller diamond that means more love. With a smaller diamond there is real love in the relationship. With the bigger diamond it’s as if the guy has to buy her love. I thought that was kinda interesting – I have the smallest diamond among my friends and I honestly think that my husband and I get along the best and have the better relationship.

the answer is already in your question.
it is the symbolism that is important, because as people, we respond to those symbols, they help define our societal rules
chaos would be cool, it just would be very short too

Wedding rings keep many people from “hitting” on you and
the advise others that you have “back-up” if needed…

Just like the size of a guy’s “tool”, the ring and its size matters to women. Also it shows that the fact that you went out of your way to get a really nice ring for her shows how much you love her. If you had a new car or baby, you’d want to go around showing it off. It symbolizes love in the long term after the initial “OMG look at my ring. It’s something for her to look at and think of you. Also we women LOVE jewlery. Especially sparkling ones. Jewlery to us is like candy to a kid.

People look at marriage and wedding rings in a different way.

it is more than the symbolizism of the ring more over it is the bond of the ring from you to her and from her to you , although the ring may symbolize the marriage the marriage is what the ring is for .I hope this gives you somewhat of an idea .

because in america, people think that materials mean everything. I agree that weeding rings r important but some people forget about the meaning and see the ring to compare it to theirs (if they’re married)
