Why Are Wedding Rings Always Referred To As Bands?

Hardly anyone calls them start rings. And you never edifice most occurrence bands as those are ever named rings. Why not wage them a compliant name?

    Band implies a wider (thicker, not larger in diameter) ring. That’s why a wedding band can also be called a wedding ring but an engagement ring cannot be called an engagement band. Ring is more generic, band is more specific(in thickness).

    most wedding rings have no stones only the gold band… hence wedding bands. engagement rings usually have stones so they are not technically “bands”
