white gold is actually gold alloyed with another element to give it its unique luster and beauty. platinum is a rare, very strong element which is harder to scratch than gold, which is actually a very soft element. platinum is actually very hard and complicated to mine and refine, thus making it substantially more expensive. my choice: platinum. it's strength signifies strength in the relationship. plus- gold is simply cliche nowadays. everybody has it.

Platinum is platinum... it's a far more rare as a metal.
White gold is actually gold alloyed with zinc, copper, and another metal. http://www.goldintomoney.com/precious-me…

They both look gorgeous, however, the white gold will turn yellow over the years and need to be re-plated. The platinum will stay white....but it's also significantly more expensive.
They both look the same though, it takes a well-trained eye to see the difference.
