solid (24 carat) is soft metal . 14carat gold is almost half silver, copper or other metals to make it hard enough to be practical. Gold plating will rub off (not on you). If your gold isn’t at least 18 k , you might as well wear costume jewelry (my opinion)

solid gold means just what it says, its all gold. gold over silver is a silver piece, that has been dipped in gold, and ends up rubbing off after time, tarnishing, or just being a hunk of junk. its better to invest your money in a good gold piece thats going to last and stay strong than to waste your money with an overtone piece that wont last.

it means it will wear off and the silver will show …it means the silver was dipped in gold…kinda like candy dipped in chocolate its just a shell..i wouldnt pay 500 bucks for jewelery dipped in gold..thats just me..buy the real thing or nothing

you just said the difference. One is SOLID gold. The other is sterling silver that is Gold plated. Which means its still sterling silver underneath or if you scratch it.

“Solid gold” is a misnomer. It could be 10k, 14k or even 18k , but not 24k. Even “solid gold” coins are not solid gold, but something like .9167 fine gold.

If you only wear about five times, you’ll be okay.
The gold plating scratches off and looks horrible.
