ive used pawn shops my self once this happened to me i was going to collect my stuff thier was one day to go the shop thought i was not going to pick the things up so they sold the moterbike i had put in for bye back you are in the wright no matter what they say if i was you i would put a price in you feel happy with and stick to if you have the paper work in hand then in the eyes off the law tyhey have stolen from you get in the shop call the police make fuss they will pay juet to getrid off you good luck mate let me know how you get on

They breached their end of the contract and if you still have all the paper work then you are well within your legal parameters to take them to court and sue them. You can potentally get a new set of rings, the cost is going to be tricky as you suggested, but the fact is you were pawning it which means the rings weren’t being sold they were being held as collatoral. It’s the equivalent of you going to a bank and getting a loan and giving them your car as collatoral and when you went to go get your car back the bank simply mis placed your car. So they are responsible for the full price of what a jewler would sell them to you at todays price. Platinum has gone up therefore your rings are worth more now than they day you bought them and what the pawn shop pays you back should reflect that. Don’t settle with buying some jewelry from them, take them to court and get your money’s worth so you can go to a real jewerly store and buy what you want instead of settling for their crap. Don’t forget to throw in the court fees, and filing fees and lawyer fees, along with the pain and suffering you incured from missing your rings….okay that may be taking to a little too far. But you get my drift.

I would talk to the police and maybe a lawyer. If an employee took the rings. That is theft. It should have been reported to the police.
Assuming that your payments were current, the shop had the responsibility to protect your rings.

When an item is pawned the store will make you sign a receipt or similar, on this receipt will be a contract agreement according to law in the particular State.
Remember, a transaction is taking place and unless the pawn shop is completely operating outside of the state regulation some type of contract/agreement must be provided.
Take the time to read the agreement since it will provide a general overview of how the particular shop operates business concerning a pawned item.
Furthermore, a lawyer will provide additional legal information should the contract/agreement appear vague.
Although, a pawn broker offering an equal or replacement value may be your only alternative.
Concerning the view of (special value) will probably not hold up in a court since viewing these precious items would have never promoted the original pawn.
I hope you understand the latter statement and not see it as an insult.
Always try working together to settle this dilemma, take a day or two and generate a value you will be satisfied with.
The rings are more than likely gone and will never be located, placing some money in your pocket that you are satisfied with is the next best thing.
In the event the pawn broker will not work with you then seek additional help; police etc…
Sadly, the latter will more than likely wind up in a court battle that will leave you tired, in the end you will win but the only person happy will be the lawyers…
