Gold is a warmer colour and looks best on darker skin tones while platinum has a cool colour that tends to compliment fair skin tones. With that said, you should pick something that you really enjoy wearing since this ring is going to be with you for a while.
I personally prefer platinum because it’s more dense than gold, which means it is resistant to bending and scratches. Pure gold is quite soft so nickel, zinc, and copper are added to increase its durability. Platinum also does not tarnish easily and retains its luster longer than gold.

Platinum as a metal is more valuable.
Gold is more malleable and more easily sized.
Platinum looks like stainless steel.
