Written by Admin on September 27, 2009

I coiffe every chestnut antimonial jewellery, and ever intellection that I would impact a chestnut antimonial occurrence anulus and start band. However, my traffic and I went labour on the weekend, and the eld of the rings in the stores were platinum. I impact create a anulus that I like, which was in platinum, and it looks amazing! The jewellers impact told me that they crapper do it in platinum OR chestnut gold, I foregather impact to choose.
I was wondering if you conceptualise it looks fantastic to impact platinum engagement/wedding rings, and every added adornment chestnut gold? Or would i be best try platinum shoulders on my occurrence ring, and a chestnut antimonial start band… or does that warrant strange?
Please hold as my swain (soon to be fiance!!) has to accept the creator participate tomorrow.
Thanks

Yellow gold is seen as tacky? That is why jewelers don’t offer it as much as white metals? Oh, wow….
    I don’t think so.
Metals in fine jewelry are subject to fashion trends just like clothing…..back when I was married for the first time, yellow gold was ‘THE’ color and white gold was seen as ‘tired and old fashioned/boring lol…..that was 1974. Guess what..my first engagement ring was white gold. Was I gonna let fashion trends dictate what I wore on my ring finger? NO! lol
So now it’s white metals….give it ten years and white metals will be seen as tacky, tired, and out dated and people will be clambering for yellow gold.
    So very, very silly, really.
And poo-poo to those who say “Oh you CAN’T mix metals?” I say…
“Who says, the Fine Jewelry Fairy?”
I wear white gold (not todays stuff it’s not that great a quality), sterling silver and platinum, even stainless steel. Yet when I married the second time, two years ago, we opted for yellow gold-classic warm and always beautiful….my wedding rings stand out from the crowd because they don’t blend in with my other pieces.
Go with what YOU like, Hon and never mind the ‘fashion police’ as they contantly change their minds every few years……just think in a few years if you go with yellow gold all those white gold gals will look dated (such a silly thing, trends are) and you’ll be in style…until the fashion trends change again..lol
However platinum is always in style….good luck.

i use to work in a jewelry store for 5 years and comparing between yellow or platinum are 2 different things. platinum is about 3 times more expensive than yellow gold and it’s also a really dense metal. if price isn’t an issue you can solve your problem by adding a touch of both worlds mean you can have majority of your engagement ring and wedding band in platinum with a touch of yellow gold in it. the jeweler would be able to understand that and custom your ring in the best possible to where it would match beautifully. you can have you soon to be husbands wedding ring like that as well.

I think that if you wear yellow gold rings all the time then it will look a little off to have a platinum engagement ring. I would suggest wearing a yellow gold ring but have the diamond set in platinum as apparently that is the best thing to set diamonds in, in order to preserve the diamond and keep it looking it’s best.
Congratulations on your soon to be engagement, May God continually bless your union.

I love my platinum setting for my ring.
The only drawback, is that since mine is a solitaire, I needed to get a thin wedding band.. so that it stays proportional to the band on my engagement ring… and even when getting the thin band, it was still 500+ for my band.
If you are okay with spending the extra money on your band, I’d go with platinum, I bang mine around all the time and it’s still shiny and smooth.

I would say just go with whatever looks best on your finger.
For some reason, I honestly hate the look of yellow gold against my skin tone. I have yellowy skin as it is so I chose white gold.
Platinum just has a different look about it. Mind you it is more expensive, but also more durable.
Just make sure it is something that you can live with for every day of your life. You will be wearing it EVERY DAY. Lol.
    Best of luck!

Well I personally don’t wear yellow gold, so I went with platinum…so I don’t know how it would look. Why don’t you put on some of your gold jewelry and then go down to the store and try on the ring and see how it looks and if you like it? That’s the best way to see.

bottom line, go with what you like best. who cares what everyone else thinks! back when i got married, yellow gold was all the rage. (22 years ago). i personally think my yellow gold band and engagement ring are beautiful. i wear a stainless steel and gold watch with it and it looks great! trends come and go. such is fashion. and i really don’t think any metal has ever been seen as “tacky”. it’s all in your personal preference.

Im not sure if this is an Option – but what about WHITE GOLD? Its far less expensive than Platinum, and hey – maybe if the band itself isnt as expensive, then your hunny can spring for a larger stone.
Best of luck to both of you! :D this is a very exciting time!!!

Patinum will have to be redipped every so often depending on what you do with your hands and how many other rings you wear. Where as gold can just be polished platinum can’t and many of the warranties don’t cover this.

some people choose two-toned rings that feature both yello and white gold. Look at the rings, find what you like best. It will not matter if you choose a platinum ring, but have all yellow gold jewlery.

I would go with the yellow. I always thought that platinum was cold looking and yello gold was a warmer – more “marriage” looking ring.

I personally prefer platinum, but I think it would look odd if all your other jewellery is yellow gold – so i would opt for the yellow. Congratulations, by the way!

Although platinum can be nice – I prefer yellow gold for wedding and engagement rings as it is traditional.Somehow gold has a cachet that platinum does not.

Platinum is going to last longer and look better over time without you having to worry about taking your ring off while washing your hands etc. I would defo go for Platinum! Congrats by the way!

gold is a soft metal, platinum is hard and durable. Gold tends to scratch, if your thinking about it, get platinum.

Platinum is more expensive than gold, it wears a lot longer.

i wear a mix – some white gold – some yellow gold – some pink gold!
*****you need to consider the fact that quite often changing the color of the metal ie from platinum to yellow gold will completely change the look of the ring and you may not even like that same ring in yellow gold. i have rings in white gold that i didn’t like at all in yellow gold and vice versa! i would strongly suggest if you want platinum and that’s the ring you fell in love with then that’s the one you should have.
just keep in mind that the higher the caret the softer the gold ie most men’s rings are 10k because they work with their hands more so than women do – 14k is still quite strong while 18k is a tad softer and 24k is softer yet~my rings are 18k white gold and 40 years old – still going strong!
    good luck sweetie and congrats!
edit: i dont’ know where people get the idea that white gold and platinum need to be redipped! honestly as i said mine are 40 years old and have never been touched!

yellow gold is seen as tacky looking now a days thats why most jewellers dont have as much as they used to. WOW if you boyfriend is willing to spend out on platinum then go for it, its so much more classy now a days. just replace all your other jewellery in time.
plus if you like it in platinum then whos to say you will like it in yellow gold? its surprising how different it would look. they have displayed it in this colour for a reason, because thats how it looks best!
