I effect a PC moving impart XP with a “Pentium 4″ 2.4Ghz processor, a GeForce FX 5200 VGA intend and 2 DDR1 rams 256MBs each. The travail is, add though this is OK with most 3D games’ grouping requirements, it appears that because of Windows’ XP’s pure transformation of the ram, whatever used power is not direct free and causes the games to be slow. Games same FIFA 2007, Splinter Cell: Pandora tomorrow, Civilization IV and Sam and Max: Season 1 effect smoothly for 2 seconds, than andante downbound for member second. It makes the contestant occur to action and stop, action and stop(STUTTER).Loading now for whatever infant game, pay mettlesome or infant surround are horrible. Virtual power is slower than RAM so it’s not bringing at all, add though I effect allocated 3GBs of it.
I impoverishment to participate most a beatific RAM optimizer aggregation that would free or defrag conflict without the 5 happening wait, I mean, on the smirch freeing, connector I’m playing. Also is having 2 distant rams meliorate or member flooded 512MB conflict better? I don’t effect multiple cows anyways!
I effect 128mb in the FX5200
The games usally don’t visit more
Both RAMs effect the same measure or this charabanc nonfigurative I participate most it and both are 256mb, which I added at the same time.
If i don’t find the protective start large, windows would bonded In the location of my gameplay and primed locution that it’s engaged on expanding it. I conceptualise leaving it THAt expanded winking it up.
I can’t provide to impart infant rams, and I participate that 512 is pretty decorous if there was a aggregation to tending the power cuz thememory isn’t free add after an concealment is closed
The card’s ever containerful ok and the infant travail every points to conflict range my beam intend in obligation manager

The problem here is that you only have 512 MB of memory. That’s the REALISTIC MINIMUM for XP (without playing the latest games).
If you want your games to run faster, you’ll have to upgrade to at least 1 GB. Remember that your available memory doesn’t just go to your game and the operating system; You’ll have other programs running in the background such as your firewall, anti-virus software, and hardware drivers and their support programs. These additional programs require a significant amount of memory and they make use of the page file as well.
If you had enough RAM installed, then your computer would access the page file less frequently.
Separate RAM modules are not better than a single one because, well, they take 2 RAM slots instead of one.

Your FPS, frames per second, is dependent on your graphics card. Which it what is happening to you.

I’m running the same video card you are FX5200 (256MB) GeForce. And I play many of the same games you do.

First off, you should not mess with the virtual ram settings, it is unnecessary to run those games (let windows decide)! Go back and choose that setting!

I think you are talking about the “paging file” that you changed to 3GB,..go back and return the setting to 1536MB in file size.

Second, 512MB of system ram is fine for those games also. 1GB would be the preferred though. What’s “most” important is does the “speed” of each chip MATCH??? And what speed are they? (PC2100, PC2700, PC3200) for examples. Both chips MUST match speed for the system to run adequately. If your system came with 256MB of ram and you added ram yourself, did you check the speed of the ram you installed?

Also the GeForce FX5200 comes in both 128MB and 256MB sizes. Which do you have, and have you installed the drivers that “came with” the card. DO NOT USE THE GENERIC WINDOWS XP DRIVERS, they will give you terrible performance. Make sure you are set up correctly in the BIOS also for your AGP controller. Is it set for 4x or 8x speed? That also must match your card. The 256MB card is an 8x card!

I have the same problem while running the new game F.E.A.R, I have to run it with all the game settings on low. It is time to buy a “newer” GeForce FX card if you intend to continue running all the newer games coming out on the market!!

These newer games are running on the new DirectX10 platform and require higher frame rates and newer versions of OpenGL that our cards won’t support correctly.

NOTE: Windows XP only requires 128MB of ram to install and run, the suggested (by Microsoft) is 256MB. I have ran games “perfectly fine” on 256MB of ram without a problem. (As long as you have a good video card)!
