That’s an excellent observation. You sounded more like a romantic diamond spokeperson. I have seen how a PERFECT DIAMOND™ would SHINE™ in the SUNSHINE and it is one of the most beautiful thing I have ever seen aside from the view on the top of the mountain or looking at face my face in the mirror. (laughs)

I have no gemological background, but I know a lot about a great deal of gem stones. I couldn’t imagine d-flawless moissanite. You know, though, I would wish for a little less fire. It is a bit excessive. I am reminded when I was younger and had a fish tank. I bought separate bags of red, blue, yellow, black- all colors of gravel and put them together in my fish tank. It was an overall purplish look. That’s what Moissanite reminds me of.

I think you must have some background in diamonds for you to be able to know that. I absolutely agree. Color acts as a filter and it filters light. Flaws can also hinder the prismatic effect of light inside the diamond. Imagine a moissanite that is D color and Flawless? Ideally cut and inert to fluorescence? That will be the ultimate gem.

Also, the fact that d-flawless diamonds are absolutely colorless means there is the strongest contrast possible between the white light reflected (which will be perfectly white) and the fire, or the colored light. The combined effect of the two provides the most coveted light display in the entire gemstone world.

Moissanite is more of a collage of intense colors on a dirty background. There is a video of a d flawless ascher cut diamond on youtube. It is completely different than moissanite. It has a liquid, flawless beauty compared to dingy Moissanite. Moissanite looks superficial, like you can only see the colors on the surface of the stone, but the d flawless diamonds you can see into them forever!!

It’s hard to grade Moissanite with the same range as diamond. The base body color to diamond is usually off-white to slightly yellow, whereas Moissanite has a greyish green. I would say that an H-colored Moissanite will not be the same as an H-colored diamond. It’s lightly greenish, versus slightly yellowish. The Moissanite would probably look better, though it would be slight. However, a diamond graded ‘d’ in color and flawless is going to be better than either.

I guess my final question would be. Does a G-color VS2 Ideal H&A Round Brilliant diamond will look better than a H-color VS2 Very Good Cut moissanite?

Yes! I owned a small High D-Internally Flawless Perfect Diamond. I am a perfectionist in some aspects of my life. If Moissanite does look green it is probably bcoz it has a green fluorescence and I don’t know if they still have them up to now. Green fluorescing diamonds are extremely rare so I guess some people might even like their Moissanite to fluoresce green.

Moissanite certainly are not cheap. They’re roughly 1/5th the cost of fine diamond. A single carat is nearly $1,000.

I kinda notice the dark colors of it. that is why I wanted to own one to see it personally. There are no moissanite available here in the Philippines for $20 dollors as what you can have there in the US. A small moissanite would be enough for me to see how they would look like.

To be quite frank, the base color of Moissanite is very displeasing. Certainly its optical properties are superior to diamond’s, but it’s not enough to make up for the abysmal color quality.

Type in ‘d flawless diamond’ on You Tube and watch one of the videos. There is not even a comparison. Moissanite is NOT white; it’s green.

Still I believe moissanite will still attract more attention even though it may not have the sizzling whiteness of a D-colorless and flawless diamond but the excessive fire and brilliance of moissanite must be a good reason to try them. Up to now I am still drooling for them here in youtube as I have never seen a moissanite in person. So I could not really say if they are indeed better than colorless diamonds.

are you saying diamonds are more blindingly white than moissanite?

Moissanite will never compare to diamond simply because it can never be colorless. Therefore it will never have the sizzling whiteness of a d-flawless diamond. There’s no comparison. Though I will say I love the excessive fire and sharp sparkles of Moissanite, which is clearly greater than diamond, like at 4:48, it fails to make up for lack of blinding whiteness achieved with diamonds. It’s a shame, they’re very pretty.

Good answer. I have always wanted to own a moissanite to see it in person however the moissanite retailers here in the Philippnes are hundreds of miles away and it is cheaper to buy in the US than here including shipping but I don’t have relatives willing to ship goods from the US.

I like to start with smaller moissanite like 1/4 ct but that is hard to find.

    7. Moissanite is much more durable. CZ always has a very finite life. They scratch and chip with ordinary wear. CZ stones are known to cloud and discolor with time. CZ stones are slightly porous so hand oils, etc. can seep into the stone. CZ has a much stronger afinity to dirt and oil so the stone will get dirty much faster. CZ is fine for fun, $15 silver costume jewelry, but is not suitable for fine jewelry given its finite life IMO.

    6. Moissanite is cut so that it is singly refractive when viewed through the table (top of the stone). The double refraction is visible when the Moissanite is viewed with a loupe through the girdle facets. However this is a property of Moissanite that is not usually noticed by the average consumer.
