Go with white gold. It has the white/grey look you’re after. It’s sturdy, but not too hard that it can’t be resized later (like platinum). It is a higher quality metal than stainless steel.
Tungsten and titanium are super strong. They cannot be resized either. Also, if they are dropped at just the right angle and speed, they will shatter into a zillion pieces. They are also heavier, so a lot of men who don’t often wear jewelry will find them uncomfortable and hard to get used to.

Check QVC.com. They have a line called Epiphany Platinum Clad. It’s platinum permanently bonded over sterling silver, so you get the platinum look at a *MUCH* lower price.

White gold would be a good choice you can go with either 10K which would be harder or 14K more expensive a little softer due to more gold being included. These will be Rhodium plated which gives them the silver shine, after some months pass…it will fade and be a light silvery yellow. Platinum loses it’s shape pretty easily anyway. If he is not traditional you may want to look at titanium.

My advice is to go with classic yellow gold. If you get 10k, it is really strong and resilient. Most guys like this because it goes with everything, and doesn’t go out of style. The platinum thing for wedding rings is just a fad, and hopefully you want him to have the ring a very, long time.

we both have 10k white gold…my husband’s ring still looks good but needs to be cleaned some…my still look almost right out of the jewlery counter (I haven’t had a chance to clean them lately)…about the only time I have every taken my engagement ring off was when we went 4-wheeler riding right after a tropical storm came through…but I am terrible on jewerly…within a week of getting my class ring I had already chipped the stone…so this tells you a little about how I am…but my rings really do still look good and so does my husband’s…

Titanium is great. Every guy that I know that is married (7 or so) have titanium bands and are happy with them, and they all have really hard jobs where the rings are getting bashed around and they look great still.

First of all, talk to your fiance – keep in mind that he may have his own ideas about what he wants. Then talk to a jeweler. Most will be happy to tell you all about the different kinds of metals, whether or not they have them in stock. If you find a particular jeweler is being pushy, go somewhere else – it’s not like they’re hard to find!
In the end, pretty much any white metal will do – you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between white gold and stainless steel if it’s done right.
    Good luck and God bless.
