Your MIL is mistaken, platinum is a very expensive metal that will last longer than and is more durable than gold. And your MIL also has some homophobic issues, sorry…

No, I think that is too harsh. Platinum is a heavy metal and very durable. That is why it is a popular alternative to gold. Like gold, it is also very rare and hard to come by naturally so this leads to its high worth. Demand accounts for the other reason it is so expensive. It can get dingy and not shine very well after a while while gold can be buffed and replaced. I don’t think it is a fad, it is just a preferance for some, just like food or anything else. Although, it is popular and with the high price of gold it is more popular.

Is she kidding? Practically everybody(not me, I like yellow gold) is all into platinum these days. If they can’t afford platinum, they go for white gold. Your MIL is having the same misconceptions about gays that a lot of people have, maybe from watching too much “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”. Platinum is simply more stylish, which means that gays are the first ones to recognize the trend.

Your mother in law needs a lobotomy. Platinum bands are not “for gay people” Anyone who wants to wear a platinum band can wear one. My husband has one, his brother has one, and several of our friends all have platinum wedding bands (none of them are gay) My uncles however (who are gay and have been together for over 25 yrs.) have yellow gold wedding bands. So tell your MIL to go jump in a lake and you get what you want to get.

No, it isn’t. I didn’t think so, but wasn’t positive, so I went to this site to see. It is specifically for gay and lesbian wedding rings. There is no mention that platinum rings are specifically for gays. In fact, if your mother in law wants you to aviod rings made from metals that are used for gay rings, you would be wearing no ring at all! And you know what? Who cares? Get what you want…..

Platinum and white gold are very in right now. Many people think yellow gold looks too old and outdated. Platinum is also very popular because of the sturdiness of it, especially for men’s rings. It will hold up to a lot more wear and tear compared to a gold ring. It has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

Never heard of that. The place we bought my ring had a whole area dedicated to platinum & I only saw male/female couples there. Not that I would give a crap anyway, but no. My original engagement ring was platinum.

Not true!!!
My engagement ring is platinum and my wedding band will be too. Its just another metal you can choose.
Also Tiffany’s rings are generally platinum rather than white gold.

Um… No
Platinum, White Gold, and silver are usually picked becuase of price and the silver metal look.
People buy them becuase gold is gay…

Well in that case everyone who has married in England in the last few years is gay because no one wears yellow gold any more!

Wow! I really haven’t heard this one before. Absolutely not – I think platinum is for anyone, gay or not.
Good luck with whatever you pick out, I am sure it will be fabulous!!!
