first off, I want to say that I <3 yellow gold. i think it’s classic and elegant. BUT i understand that what you are saying- everything now a days is white gold or platinum. i am sure you can get it re-set in a new white gold or platinum setting- just take it to a trusted jeweler. although i want to say two things-
    1. my friend has a platinum wedding band and it is the heaviest damn ring i have ever felt
    2. i know that white gold and platinum are the new thing…but what if in a few years it goes back to being yellow gold- then you will want you yellow gold back…plus isn’t it nice to be different some times????

You probably can get it plated with silver or yellow gold but that might ruin whatever design it has on it and i have no idea how much it would cost since gold is very expensive right now. One of the other answers is right in saying that white gold is more high maintenance though. My rings are white gold and they get dull/yellowish looking pretty often as they get dirty and you have to have them dipped in rhodium every so often to keep the bright “white” color. Yellow gold is very pretty and since that is how the rings originally where you should probably Just keep them that way. You could always keep your wedding band on and then get another ring to go with it or the set that is two-toned (has both yellow and white). that way you can keep your rings the way they are and still get more white gold added to change the look a bit.

I guess the only thing to do now is get a divorce. Your poor hubby spent 2 months’ salary on each of those rings and YOU DON’T LIKE THEM? Do this: Step up to a mirror, and slap yourself.
You’re right. There are a lot of smart and informed yahoo people here. Considerate too. you should try to be as well.
“I dunno”…”I’m tired of”…Please……you’re lucky your hubby doesn’t say the same thing waking up next to you.

Do you really care what NO ONE else is wearing or not wearing? Didn’t you choose your rings along with your husband? There is no way I could or would change my rings… they mean so much to both of us, not in a monetary way, but they are a lasting symbol of our love and of our commitment to each other.
I’m smart enough and informed enough to know that that is all that matters.

Those rings are not a fashion statement! The man you love put those rings on your finger. They represent the love between you, and can never be replaced, or altered. Do the feminist thing and get some great rings for your right hand! I have a collection of massive diamonds on my right hand.

They could maybe put white gold on it. Or you can do what I did and just but yourself a new one. My place lets me trade in but you have to spend twice as much.

I have white gold and if I had it to do over again, I’d choose the yellow gold. The white gold is way too much maintenance. Stick with what you have.

Maybe go to a jewler and see what he/she can do if you ask or tell them what you want.

Doris Doris Doris. You’re missing the point! The ring set shows that you have found someone to live your life with. It’s not really a status symbol, but rather a testimony that you are loved. When my parents got married in the 1940′s, platinum was the cheaper metal than gold. So my mother had a platinum ring set. It was all my Dad could afford.
With the existence of white gold, it is very hard to differentiate between platinum and white gold. So with yellow gold at least you know you got real gold. I myself am a fan of yellow gold. I think it’s pretty. It’s also the natural color of it. The best part about my ring set is that it came from my husband. A gift for life!
You may have friends now who may be snooty about your things, but in the end when they are gone or moved on, there’s still just you and your lover, friend, husband. Enjoy your marriage and enjoy the love you have between the two of you. The rings are what your heart chose when you were seeking a life together. I’d say keep them as they are and tell your snooty friends that they represent the love bond you have together with your husband.! They are the “originals”. Stop looking over at the grass that’s on the other side of the fence. Your side is just as beautiful!
    —————–
OK so if you’re really just wanting to change the color after all my coaxing, to keep your originals, then the best way to go would be to have them plated in either white gold or platinum.
Bear in mind that when you have them plated they will be of a smaller size so you should have the rings stretched a little before the plating process. Platinum adheres to gold very well. Make sure you find a reputable jeweler because this person will also have to remove your diamonds prior to plating.
