How Is It That People Confuse Wedding Rings & Engagement Rings?
Written by Admin on July 30, 2010Just curious, but I gaming lots of questions on here aforementioned “how much should I clear on a start ring” and they noise mean the occurrence anulus or “what is the disagreement between an occurrence anulus and a start ring?”.
So I’m wondering how is it that alot of grouping seem to paraphernalia the member or not participate what the disagreement is. Or are there foregather alot of teenaged grouping here who don’t participate the difference??

I’ve always chalked it up to cultural & linguistic differences. Remember, Yahoo! Answers is a global community; American marriage customs are not universal. For many posters, English is a second or third language, so words and concepts like “marriage,” “engagement,” and “wedding” have may different connotations or imperfect translations, depending on the poster’s culture.
Also bear in mind that the average Y!A user is quite young–mid-to-late teens would be my guess–and so they and their peers have less experience with weddings/marriage than those of us who are adults. What seems like common knowledge to you or I… isn’t for everyone.

I agree with the fact that it depends on the culture. My family is from Poland and our close friends just got married. They wear only bands and on the right hand; it’s customary. It truly depends on the person. I know for a fact that there is a difference and I’m considered young. I guess I agree with everyone else in that it is unusual to not know.

It actually depends on the culture. In the US it is common to have a separate engagement ring for the bride only. In Europe, when getting engaged both fiances usually use wedding bands and when they marry they only switch hands and also add a further engravement.

Engagement rings are not an every country issue. We, in the United States adapted it from one country, some say Greece, others say Rome. However, it is not the same in every country. Nor are the hands it is worn on. Maybe we should take into account culture and not age.

I don’t know how people could confuse the two. They are completely different rings. It might be that there are a lot of young people on here and they just do not know the difference, but I am young and I know the difference between the two.

yeah I mean honestly, how can you be so sheltered that you have never been to a wedding or have never known anyone who was engaged? in the past 2 years every single one of my close friends save 1 has gotten married, I’ve been to over 20 weddings in my life!

Some people who have never been married or apart of someone else’s marriage may not understand that there are two rings. But some of them do understand this they just say wedding ring instead of engagement out of habbit.
