It sounds like it would be doable. I think jewlers can do almost anything. I’m sure if you take it to a jewler they will be able to show you what is possible. My advice is to take it to a local professional jewler not to a chain jewlery store at the mall. They will probably have to send it away. A local jewler should be able to do the work on premise. You can melt the necklace and make something out of it, but the problem is not enough gold to make a rope chain.

Go to a good jeweller and they will advise you. Don;t go cheap.
