Okay, a jeweler taught me this trick, relax your hand, just let it lay limp across your lap or on a chair, and move the ring side to side while pulling slowly forward on it.
If you’d like, you can have ice beneath your hand to help the skin contract.
If it gets to be painful, leave the ring where it is, let the ice stay where it is, and keep your hand relaxed. Try again in another 5 minutes. Every time you stop, you should be further.
The hardest part to get over is the first knuckle because thats usually where the most swelling occurs.
If that doesn’t work, at the risk of oiling up your wedding & engagement rings (if its any thing like mine, I’ve got a tri-diamond for my engagement and a half circle of diamonds for my wedding band), I’d say soak your ENTIRE hand, not just the fingers, in Crisco or Dawn soap.
If you can, while you’re soaking the hand in Crisco, take your hand out and push the ring straight down on a counter or something so they’ll be some lift to it, grab the diamond or the ring itself and re sumburge your hand in the Crisco (so it gets underneath the ring). After a while, try the same tecnique as above (with or without ice).
If NONE of that works, this will 100%
All you need is a thread.
The difficult part lies in getting a thread to go through the ring- this is because often the swelling of the finger makes space very limited. However a stiff thread like a nylon one – or maybe even threading a needle and making that go through – might help.
Once out on the side of the nail, proceed to twist the thread tightly around the digit, creating a sort of ‘screw’ pattern. Make the rings of thread not too far apart, but close enough tho be able to tighten the skin sufficiently so as to make a narrower passage of flesh over which the ring can slide through.
