Wow…..sounds like an awesome experience and something you’ll remember for years to come. But, I’ve never been to a wedding that luxurious. The most expensive wedding I’ve been to was about (that this is just a guess) was probably about $30,000. This wedding had a ton of food, I’d have to say, more than 1/2 the budget probably went to it. They had a huge cocktail hour w/ a few stations, passed appetizers and signature drinks. The dinner was 5 courses, including an intermezzo. Plus, wedding cake and Venetian table.
Thirty thousand isn’t all that outragous, considering the average wedding in my area is about $20,000(East Coast, high cost of living area). But, that extra $10,000 (most of it in food), really made it more memorable.
But, I’ve never been to such a elaborate wedding. However, in college, I worked at a Jewish Country Club and a family threw their 13-year old daughter a $150,000 (maybe even more) bat mitzvah. It was insane! They hired outside decor company, lighting people and the DJ had back-up dancers. Plus, let’s not mention the food. I heard it was about $300 a plate!
Still, to this day, it’s one of the most elaborate parties I’ve ever seen!

Never been, but I wish I was there!! Holy moly… Sounds wonderful!!
Knowing me, I’ll regret everything that I already have planned for my wedding and throw my motto “it’s about the marriage, not the wedding” out the window!! lol. No, not really.. But I would be highly jealous of their “platinum” affair, and hope mine would be just as extravagent!! :)

I’ve never been to a Platinum Wedding…wish I could, that sounds spectacular! Although with my broke (and mostly single) friends, that doesn’t look like it’ll be happening anytime soon….guess I’ll have to get my fill of Platinum Weddings from the TV =P

no, but i watch that show all the time. its fun to watch, and i can see if you have millions of dollars, 60,000 on flowers is like pocket change. But it just makes me mad in this economy taht people are so ridiculous!

I haven’t been to one like that but it sounds amazing! You probably won’t get much luck on here, seems most of the people in the wedding section think anything over 2k is a waste of money for a wedding.

Yes, I’ve been to a few and they are without a doubt amazing. Here are some of my highlights from the couple I’ve been too:
    - belly dancers as entertainment set against gorgeous middle eastern decor (this wedding did do a fantastic job of walking the theme tacky/classy line by using touches of the middle east but not just outright drawing attention to it)
    - the reception/ceremony venues themselves, one was tat he largest cathedral in St. Paul and another was at a historic Minneapolis Mansion
    - all of them had open bars with top shelf liquor
    - one had a gourmet meal that had Wolfgang Puck as head chef, the reception venue was 20.21 (his restaurant) and he came out to serve the bride and groom their plates
    - not exactly a the most high class thing, but still a fantastic thing for them to have done, gourmet pizza was served at midnight for people who were drinking and dancing
    - the flowers were always amazing, including one wedding that had a 4 ft tall rose topiary as a centerpiece
-one of the favors given out was a star named for us on the International Star Registry
My own wedding isn’t going to be that extravagant but it’s nice to see. :)

It sounds beautiful, but I have never been to a platinum wedding before. I seen some on television and they were alright and I would love to have something like that, but it is not necessary.

Yes. My husband’s best friend since college.
I am not sure how much they spent, but it was in the wine country in Sonoma at The Fairmont there. They had a bar carved out of ice with their initials on it and a cool ice martini slide where you poured the drinks through it and it chilled it into your glass. They had a champagne fountain and a magnum cut with a sword. They paid for the meals/open bar for both Friday and Saturday night for all of their guests.
My husband’s best friend puts on wonderful parties. Their holiday party is lots of fun, too. He started his own company from scratch and is a millionaire at 31.
Edit: I also forgot about the wedding of some of our other friends at The Hotel Bel Air. It was nice, but honestly, not near as nice as the wedding put on by my hubby’s best friend.
