   If you’ll be wearing the rings on different hands it might be okay. When worn together you will really be able to compare the two metals. But, platinum is a much better metal and you’ll (hopefully) be wearing this ring forever. Don’t make a hasty decision to save a few bucks.

   Absolutely…mine are the opposite though, my band is platinum and my engagement ring is white gold. You cannot tell the difference–except in the weight. Even though my engagement ring is bigger (wider band, etc.) than my wedding band, the wedding ring probably weighs about twice what the engagement ring does.
   edit: I’ve worn these rings together just about every day now for over 2 years…and have YET to notice the engagement ring starting to turn “yellow” from the plating wearing off. I had my diamond from my original yellow gold engagement/wedding ring re-set a few years ago after my hubby bought me a platinum diamond band for our anniversary.

   You can BUT platinum is a much harder metal than gold. Wearing these rings together will cause the harder metal to wear away at the softer metal, causing uneveness. It’s r-e-a-l-l-y better to stay with one kind or the other.
   Now, if you plan on wearing your engagement ring only on occasion or on the right hand, it wouldn’t make a difference.

   Oh yea, one of my girlfriends has a white gold engagment ring and a platinum band that she found off of Overstock.com. You can’t even tell the difference.

   White gold bands are plated in rhodium to give them that bright white look, and rhodium comes from platinum ore and is also mixed with platinum to make jewelry. Most platinum jewelry is also covered with rhodium, so a white gold ring and a platinum ring will both be plated with the same material and should match perfectly. To make sure that they always look the same color, take them in every so often to get them rhodium plated again (it takes a jeweler about 5 minutes to do this.) If you get lifetime warranties on your rings from the jeweler (I got mine from Jared’s), they should do free rhodium plating for the life of the jewelry.

   I think they would both look good together. There really isnt that much difference other than I think platinum has a little bit more of a shine, but any good jeweler can help you find something that fits good. Congrats.

    It shouldnt be a problem. Do remember that a white gold wedding band will need to be re-rhodiumed to keep it bright and white metal colored from time to time. Most Jewelry stores offer a “maintainence plan” at a minimal cost, so you can have it done anytime you need to.

    If the band came from a store that offers free upkeep (cleaning, replating, etc.), then you should be okay. White gold will tend to “yellow” with wear, where platinum will not. This is because the rhodium used to make white gold appear white wears off, leaving normal yellow gold. You will have to have it replated to make it appear white again. I suspect that when paired closely with platinum, this will need to be done relatively often (perhaps as often as once every 1.5 months). If you can, I would avoid it and use matching platinum, but I can understand wanting to go a less expensive route.

    Of course you can! It’s something that you’ll have on your hand for the rest of your life. As long as you’re happy with it – go for it. Plus, white gold and platinum are both silver tones, so you should be good. My suggestion – go into a few jewelry stores and try on different bands with your engagement ring. Bring a camera and take pictures. Then go home, lay them all out and decide which (if any) look the best as a combo.
