i am a fan of tungten carbide or tungsten steel rings. no diamonds or anything but they are close to scratch proof and what can symbolize marrage better then a ring that dont tarnish or get scratched.
or go with a titanium ring with a small tension set diamond, its a unique look and my wife constantly gets complimates about her ring bacause of it.

You could do another precious stone instead of diamonds. They’re really pretty and cost a lot less. For the husband’s band, do a metal other than silver or gold. My fiance’s band is gonig to me titanium. It’s a shiny almost black metal.
Another option is getting your both stone instead of a diamond. Seriously, it would save you money and look awesome!
    Hope that helps :)

Try the New Age metals for the ring/band itself: titanium, platinum. And there are many different settings: tension set, bezel set, pave set, …
I got my bride a beautiful Calla cut diamond tension setting ring from this site: http://www.fine-discount-jewelry.com/calla-cut-diamond.html
Diamonds alone can come in many cuts: brilliant cut, princess cut, asscher cut, cushion cut, heart cut

how about a puzzle ring. It is a ring made up of multiple individual rins that all fit together in a certain way to make it look like one ring. The ancient story I heard was that the Husband in a harem would give them to all of his wives but not tell them how to put it back together again, so if one took off her ring to make it seem like she wasn’t married, the ring would come apart, she wouldn’t know how to put it back together again and her husband would know that she was “unfaithful”. Now times have definitely changed so I don’t think anyone would see the ring in that light anymore…I just think they are very unique rings. I have one but it is not my wedding band….but it definitely could be used as one. Mine is ony 4 bands, but I have seen them up to 12 bands. (and yes, I do know how to put it back together…lol). It would definitely go with a simple solitaire engagement ring…and if you were one that like to wear just your band from time to time, it is pretty enought to stand on its own. You can choose anything you like. Sapphires or rubies or plain gold or platinum bands. Anything you’d like. You don’t need to follow tradition.
