yes you do have rights–the service was not done to your specifications or satisfaction–does it state what you wanted done–did they inform you it could not be done with/ without changing the appearance on the work order ,and do you have a copy of it,contact the better business bureau in your city–since its a chain jeweler i would go higher up the ladder of customer service(?) as a last resort you can take them to small claims court and get the ring replaced and your money back for the resizing–make them pay court costs also–good luck –fight back–why are people so ready to give up when they are ripped off?

When people think jewelry The think of shiny object or objects. Jewelry is shiny but if worn for i while it loses it’s shine. so just bite the bullet and wear it and cherish it. It will lose its shine in no time. It may have helped if you told the store your specification and been a bit more descriptive.

When a ring is enlarged, the band is often heated and gently stretched, which typically doesn’t affect the finish much.
However, when a band is made smaller, the jeweler must cut the ring in two places to remove a section of the metal, then solder the ends back together, leaving a burnished, rough spot which requires polishing to remove.
My best guess is that they polished the entire ring so that the band would have a uniform appearance. Otherwise, there would have been a shiny place where the soldering was done.
I don’t have any knowledge of how the brushed finish is created, but I would certainly think that a reputable jeweler would be able to do this in-house or send it out to have it done. At any rate, they should have advised you that they would not be able to retain the brushed finish.
I don’t deal with chain stores for this reason. I only go to the local family-owned jewelers. Try taking it to a custom jeweler to ask if it can be re-finished, then sue for the cost in small claims.
