24″ 14k Gold Chain, Says 15.3 Grams. Question In Gold Weight!?

Written by Admin on August 21, 2009

So my 14k antimonial necklace says on the confiscate 15.3 grams. Does this mean there are 15.3 grams of GOLD in the chain? Or is it the existent coefficient of the chain?? How do I participate how much antimonial is in it, or connexion the value?? My intellection was to avow the antimonial smirch (836 today) commoner that by 33 (grams per ounce) and then avow that and multiply by 15.3 and that’s the worth in gold? RIGHT!??!

If it’s 15.3 grams, that will be the total weight of the chain. Sounds like quite a thin chain by the sounds of things. When you get the really chunky gold chains, you’re looking at atleast 40 grams.
It’s a 14k chain, so the gold content will be 58.5% compared to 24k gold with 99.9% gold content.
It’s too hard to find the value of a chain. I worked at a jewellery store. No I can’t just value your chain for you if you walk in. Generally it depends on a number of things including the condition of the chain, the carat, length, weight etc. If it matters to you, you can send it to a jewellery valuer, but that usually costs quite a bit of money. And no, the value of the gold in your chain won’t be based on the value of gold in the market.

The weight is more than likely the total weight of the necklace. 14k gold represents a 58.333 percent gold content. 24k would be pure gold. 58.33 percent gold content in a 15.3 gram necklace gives you 8.925 grams of gold. Gold is measured in troy ounces. One troy ounce equals 31.103 grams. Thus you have .287 troy ounces of gold. Using your spot value of 836 per ounce, you would have 239.89 in gold value.

Sorry Partna! 14 K gold has a fineness (pure gold content) of approx 58.3 %. The 15.3 grams is just what the chain weighs gold & alloys included.
58.3 % of the 15.3 grams is your gold content.

It means 15.3 grams of 14K gold..(14K=58.3%) or 8.92 grams of pure gold…Any jeweler can weight it for you and tell you the value…
